Background to the project

The HERANA Gateway forms part of the Center for Higher Education Transformation’s (CHET) [2] Higher Education Research and Advocacy Network in Africa (HERANA) project.

The main aim of this programme is to develop a network of higher education expertise in Africa. In particular, the HERANA Gateway is being developed to distribute research-based information to relevant experts and decision-makers. The gateway is the central point through which the dissemination of information will take place.

The HERANA gateway will achieve this by integrating the ‘fragmented’ outputs from research projects and data/information sources relevant to African higher education across the globe. A dual strategy is being deployed to disseminate relevant, integrated information:

  1. A ‘pull’ strategy that will pull information from selected information resources by means of a single, centralised search across all of the selected resources.
  2. A ‘push’ strategy that will deliver relevant content to members and subscribers of the network via an electronic newsletter.

The following participants have already been selected for Phase 1 of the ‘pull’ component of the project:

The 'push' component of the project will comprise of a bi-annual, subject-specific newsletter produced by University World News.
