University World News [2] has been commissioned to produce a bi-annual Africa Special Edition e-mail newsletter that will investigate topics of special interest to higher education in Africa and that will report on research, news and activities related to the Higher Education Research and Advocacy Network in Africa (HERANA) project of the Center for Higher Education Transformation’s (CHET) [3]. Two issues have been produced to date on the debate around differention in higher education and on the issue of race in South African universities. The special edition newsletter is produced in addtion to the University World News Africa Edition which is produced fortnightly and which covers current news in African higher education.
